Neolithic flint mine. Archaeologists examining a mining shaft at a neolithic flint mine at Casa Montero, Vicalvaro, Madrid, Spain. This flint mine, found in 2003, is the first Neolithic flint mine discovered in Spain. It consists of nearly four thousand vertical shafts, averaging nine metres deep and a metre in diameter. The mine has been dated to between 5500-6000BC.
