Tristam, barely clothed, is lying in a bracket. One of Queen Isolde's (Iseult's) ladies recognizes him and tells Isolde.
Tristan (also spelled Tristam) and Isolde (also spelled Iseult) is the tragic story of love between the Cornish knight Tristam and the Irish princess Isolde. When Tristan is bringing Isolde back to marry his uncle Mark, king of Cornwall, the two drink a potion and fall in love with one another. This illustration, dating to the early 1900s, shows one of the many tales in the story - Tristam is barely clothed, does not know who he is, and is lying in a bracket. One of Queen (Isolde did marry Mark) Isolde's ladies recognizes him and tells Isolde.
