Lung cancer. Coloured 3D computed tomography (CT) scan of an area of the lungs affected by cancer. This view of the upper part of the left lung shows the cancer at upper left, extending into the chest wall. Branching lung airways are partially enclosed by the cancer. Part of the aorta is at right, and part of the heart is at lower left. Cancer cells divide in an uncontrolled fashion and migrate to invade other tissues. Treatment is with surgery if the cancer is still localised, and chemotherapy and radiotherapy if it has spread.
