Just what the Amati family of Cremona was tothe violin, the Ruckers family of Antwerp was to theharpsichord. The Ruckers made the most perfectand the most artistic of harpsichords. Altogetherthere were about forty Ruckers. Of this family there were four members livingand working between 1591 and 1651, or later, whoachieved great reputation. Their instruments
