TYPICAL ALLOY SYSTEMS 139 Bometimes finely laminated, consisting of crystals of zinc andof the saturated solid solution of zinc in aluminium which wehave already called 7. Along this line there are very well-marked heat-evolutions in the cooling-curves of the alloys, and provided these have been so treated as to allow the reactionat the temperature of the hne CGH to be completed, these lowerheat-evolutions show a well-marked maximum at the concentra-tion corresponding to the compound Al^Zn^. Conversely, inalloys so treated, the eutectic heat-evolution at 381° C. dimin-ishes at such a rate that it would just vanish entirely at theconcentration of the compound. The curves showing the rela-tions of these heat-evolutions to the composition are repro-duced in Fig. 49, since they serve as good examples of the wayin which careful measure-ments of quantities of heatevolved may be used as l^oevidence for the existence *> ^0of a definite compound.
