WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NEW YORK - Staff Sergeant MAtthew F. Zimmer is awarded the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster and "V" device for his actions in Afghanistan on May 1st, 2014. Zimmer, a member of the 103rd Rescue Squadron, was assigned to the 46th Expiditionary Rescue Squadron when, during a casualty evacuation in the Helmund River Valley his team was attcked by a second IED critically wounding an EOD technician three meters away from his location.
