The Maschinengewehr 34, or MG 34, is a German recoil-operated air-cooled machine gun issued to German Army units in 1936 and used extensively throughout WW2. designed by Heinrich Vollmer it fires the ×57mm Mauser cartridge. Considered the world's first general-purpose machine gun it has been used by a number of armies and in contemporary conflicts.
