These six districtswere subsequently extended to nine, and to Mr. LewisTregonwell, who had become Captain in 1795, with his son,Mr. St. Barbe Tregonwell, as Lieutenant, was assignedresponsibility for a district which not only comprised theeasternmost part of the Dorset coast, but the very placewhere he subsequently founded a new seaside health resort. Quoting again from the Records of the Dorset Yeomanry,under date 1801 we get the following : — In the course ofthis summer, fears of invasion became more prevalent fromthe enemy having collected great bodies of troops all alongthe coast of France from Dunkirk to Brest, and more regula-. In Dorsetshire the Yeomanry Cavalry were in thefirst instance to remove the stock from the coast to thedistance of about eight or ten miles inland, and afterwardsto assemble in places of rendezvous to act against the enemyif occasion should require. . Captain Tregonwellsdivision is formed from the eastern boundary of the countyat a place called Bourne Chine along the north shore toPoole, and extends northwards from Poole along the turn-pike road to Wimborne, from thence eastward along theRingwood road to the 10th mile stone, and by a river calledthe Allen to a place called Sibbols, and from Sibbols in adirect line to Riddles Ford, and from thence in a direct lineto the 5th mile stone on the Christchurch-road ; and fromthence to Bourne Chine.
