Easton, Bristol, UK. 3rd February 2021. Stunning winged creations walk on stilts through the streets of Easton in Bristol, providing a much needed magical experience for the local community in these strange times. The creative force behind Corvus Angelicus, a circus performance company with a difference, is Lyn Routledge, an inspiring figure in the UK’s aerial and circus world. With restrictions placed on people’s ability to engage with the live arts, Corvus Angelicus is bringing the arts directly to the people, into the streets where they live. Lyn says that “the aims of this project are 2 fold, firstly to provide creative employment for artists and circus performers whose work has been destroyed by covid and secondly to spread a love and light, joy and hope to communities living under the strain of coronavirus lockdown. People can’t go see live arts so we are bringing it to them, to the streets where they live. I knew this project would lift people’s spirits but I hadn’t realised just how necessary it would be, people are so hungry for the arts and for something to lift their spirits. Corvus Angelicus is helping to fill that need.” Local people both young and old are encouraged to engage with the performing angels through their windows, from their door steps and gardens, or to follow at a Covid safe distance along a preplanned route with stewards present to ensure everyone’s safety. The pair of luminous stilt walking angels will visit several residential areas of Bristol over the coming days, accompanied by an original score by composer Jon Maybey.
