Martin F., a sculpture (2013-4) by Ursula von Rydingsvard at an exhibition of her work at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park near Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. Ursula von Rydingsvard was born in 1942 in Deensen, Lower Saxony, then Nazi Germany. She has been working in Brooklyn, New York for the past 30 years. One of America’s most individual artists, von Rydingsvard work is best known for creating large-scale sculptures from the cedar beams which she painstakingly cuts, assembles, and laminates, finally rubbing powdered graphite into the work's textured, faceted surfaces. The Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP) is set in the beautiful grounds and gardens of a 500-acre, 18th century country estate. It is one of the world's leading open-air galleries, where the landscape provides a wide variety of scenic locations around the grounds and estate buildings for both permanent and temporary sculptures and installations. The YSP was named Britain's museum of the year in 2014.
