The writers experience with fence posts has been that a goodgrade of red cedar posts is about the best that can ordinarily beobtained. Black locust is said to be, and undoubtedly is, the verybest timber that can be found for posts, but it seems to be a hardmatter to get them, and, if gotten at all, it will be in such smallquantities that one does not feel repaid for the effort made inobtaining them. Concrete for ties, poles and posts, has been proposed and usedto a limited extent by a few. My own idea is that concrete isnot very well adapted for use as a railroad tie, but I see no reasonwhy it should not be a success in trolley poles or fence posts. Isubmit herewith a drawing of a proposed reinforced concretetrolley pole, which I expect to see used to a very large extent. Section of 1 w:\vood mould and standat bottom of pole. about 26-
