Turkey: An illustration from a 16th-century Ottoman manuscript depicting a scene from the market in Jerrapasha in Constantinople. Jerrapasha was, at the time, a popular Venetian trading centre. The spiral column in this painting was erected by the Eastern Roman emperor Arcadius in AD 405.
