I need not tell you that I would gladly clasp the hand in friendship, and wish you better success and greater pleasure in your floral work this season than in t^e season that is past and gone. My dealings with you in the past, I trust, speak plainly to you of my friendly interest and sincere good wishes; and all must admit that there is a bond of sympathy and fellow-feeling among, those who really love the true, the good and the beau- tiful which insures manifest friendship. It is always a pleasure to me to mail my Floral Guide as the spring season approaches, for the kind acknowledgements and friendly words which come from my esteemed patrons soon after are a source of pleasure to me, and an inspiration in the delightful avocation to which my best en- ergies are devoted. Such cordial greetings indicate the appreciation of my efforts to supply the best seeds and plants at the lowest possible prices, and they promote renewed zeal and faithfulness in my patron's service. In early boyhood I began the business which is my life-work—that of Seedsman, Florist and Publisher—and throughout all these years I have had one aim and purpose— to deal honestly and satisfactorily with everyone who favored me with their patronage. I would rather lose a sale than to get gain by dishonesty or deception. This straightfor- ward business course has gained and retained for me many—yes, hosts of friends, my books to-day showing the names of more than 350,000 patrons, some of whom have been buying from me for more than a score of years—whose names I revere because of long-continued patronage, and whose annual letters seem as greetings from old friends—which they really are.
