The diagnosis of pyelitis is mainly based on the presence ofblood and pus in urine, with uneasiness in the region of the kidneys, while the bladder causes no disturbance. The diagnosis is very difiicult when vesical catarrh is combinedwith pyelitis; here we have to rely on the chronology of the symp-toms after a very careful anamnesis. Grave forms of pyelitis not infrequently escape observation dur-ing life when they occur in conjunction with othßr severe diseases. The appearance of rare renal cylinders in a sediment containingblood and pus does not point to vesical catarrh, but to pyelitis, forthe straight renal canals are frequently implicated. ACUTE VESICAL CATAKKH May terminate in rare instances in one to two days; usually, how-ever, its duration extends over one to two weeks. There is muclidifference also in the intensity of the affection. Tlie sole symp-toms in milder cases are a more frequent desire to urinate, and aslight burning accompanying it. The general health is not examination reveals a slight increase of white blood-corpuscles in the urine; the mucus is also augmented; the reactionis absolutely acid. Usually these cases occur in consequence of slight colds, orwith the male sex in consequence of drinking new beer or terminate in a few days without any medication. The frequency of desire of micturition increases as the casesare more severe. The patients can scarcely relinquish the vesselfor a moment; each time a few drops of turbid urine ar
