The history and antiquities of the abbey church of StPeter, Westminster : including notices and biographical memoirs of the abbots and deans of that foundation . ill be best comprehended by referring to the Section of the NorthTransept, in Plate VII; and to the View from Poets Corner, Plate XXX. Plate XXI. exhibits a perspective View of the North Transept from the north-west. This print,(which is placed as a frontispiece to the first volume) requires but little more description than hasbeen given in the text. It shews the gloom and dinginess which the smoke and the changes ofweather have imparted to this division of the Church. The small dark spaces to the left, in the octa-gonal buttress that forms the angle of the view, are the apertures which admit light to the internalstaircase ; the others are pannels only. The low tower seen above the roof is that which rises at theintersection of the nave and transepts, as it was rebuilt after the fire here in 1803. The buildingsseen beyond the transepts, are the eastern extremity of Henry the Sevenths Chapel; and a small partof the House of Commons, which stands on the opposite side of Old Palace
