The Temple of Olympian Zeus at Agrigento is the largest Doric temple ever built. It was never completed and today it lies in ruins. It stands in the Valley of the Temples at Agrigento in Sicily, along with ruins of other temples. (The Valley is really a ridge outside of Agrigento). The outer columns never stood on their own, but rather were engaged with a continuous wall that was necessary to support the heavy entablature. In between the columns were huge stone figures (atlas-type figures - also called telamons) - meters tall. In this 1970 photo you can see one of the telamons.
