Parts of the truss and rafter Included between numbers 1, 2 and 3 are assembled at our factory whenever possi- ble, and shipped to the Job ready for quick erection. The cross-tie connecting the truss at "2," and the sag rod extending from the rldge-jolnlng plate, are bolted in place afterwards. Truss - joining plate, bolting i truss members. SS^ Every Fitting in the Steel Frame Work of Every Lord & Burnham House is Forged or Malleable Iron 'T^HAT statement is absolutely true with one possible exception. The roof bar clasp that fastens the bar to the angle iron eave plate is cast iron. There is no twisting strain on them that ever caused them to crack, either when being put up or afterwards. So cast iron fully answers the purpose. But when it comes to column caps, you know how cast iron fittings will snap in two, when you give the bolt an extra turn to make sure it's surely tight. You can turn up the bolts until you strip the threads on every one of our malleable column fittings, and they will never crack. Then consider the gusset plates at the eave; or where they bind together the truss- both are sheared steel. Steel, shear cut and cold punched to fit. You well know there isn't anything better for the purpose. Take the little angle lug that fastens the rafter cap to the iron rafter; it is not cast. Neither is it a piece of angle iron chopped off. It is a piece of forged steel shaped directly from a flat piece. Pick one up. Look it over carefully and see how perfectly true it is shaped. Admittedly, we did used to use cast iron fittings, and even chop up angle iron; but just as soon as we found out there was a better way, we promptly did it that way. Which, as you know, is the Lord & Burnham way of doing things. IRVINGTON. N. ALBANY lof4§Banitoml& Builders of Greenhouses and Conservatories IRVINGTON. N.
