A Kashmiri boy takes a bath in a water canal to beat the scorching heat on a hot summer day in Srinagar, summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. India, the world’s most populous nation, is being hit by one of its worst heatwave streaks ever, with many parts of the country experiencing consistent temperatures over 50 degrees Celsius, or about 122 degrees Fahrenheit. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for a heatwave in several northern Indian cities, including the country's capital city, New Delhi, and the Himalayan region of Kashmir.
