In October,1897, he was transferred to the command of the pro-tected cruiser Baltimore, and in March, 1898, he wassent to the Asiatic Station with ordnance supplies forDeweys fleet, the timely arrival of which contributedso materially to the famous victory of Manila Ba3^Commander Dyer participated in the glorious navalbattle, and remained on dutv at Manila until March,1899, when he was invalided home. General Warrens mother was Lucy Rogers,who was a daughter of Jonathan Newell, M. D., ofStowe, England, a descendant of the martyr, JohnRogers. On October i, 1S6S, General Warren wasmarried to Jane Maria Hollingsworth, daughter ofAmos Hollingsworth, of Milton, Mass. He enteredPrinceton College at the age of twent}, and was grad-uated from that institution in i860, with high honors,and it was from Princeton that he received the degreeof A. M. i
