Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Escherichia hermannii, Gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, motile, rod prokaryote. Escherichia hermannii (E. hermannii) is a pathogenic bacterium that can cause septicaemia and bacteraemia in patients with wound and blood infections. E. hermannii can be an opportunistic bacterium in immunocompromised patients. It is a closely related to Escherichia coli. Bacteria in the genus Escherichia can also cause urinary tract infections, wound infections, blood infections, nosocomial infections and traveller's diarrhoea.
