Treetop climate research. Close-up of an apparatus designed to dynamically sample gas exchange between the leaves of an oak tree and the atmosphere. This includes measurements of secondary metabolites and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This research is aimed at studying the effects of climate change on these trees. The oak trees are downy oaks (Quercus pubescens). This is the Oak Observatory (O3HP) at the Observatoire de Haute Provence, Haute Provence, France. Photographed in June 2012.
