Volcanic eruption. Computer artwork of a massive volcanic eruption, which occurs as magma (yellow, orange) forces its way through the Earth's crust, and erupts as a mixture of lava and ash. The largest volcanic eruptions can propel ash into the stratosphere (11 kilometres high) and form a caldera, a large basin-shaped volcanic depression, as a result.
