St Abb's Head (L), Kirk Hill (R), Berwickshire: site of Colodaesburg Anglian fort & St Aebbe's C7th monastery which burned down after St Cuthbert gave a warning over the loose morals and high living at the double monastery (monks & nuns). Rebuilt, but destroyed by Danes in the C9th & its community under St Ebba the Younger martyred. Re-founded at Coldingham as a Benedictine priory in 1098. Lighthouse complex built by the Stevensons in 1862. St Abbs Head is a National Nature Reserve owned by the National Trust for Scotland, noted for its seabirds & flowers such as thrift/sea pink.
