Cifu Si Buddhist Monastry, Wutai Shan, China
This is just one of a score of temples at Wutai Shan. Nestled beneath five Peaks the town is a centre for Buddhist pilgrims. Getting there is a little tricky. I took an overnight train from Beijing and then transferred on to a bus at three in the morning that drove in the dark over winding mountain roads, before arriving at this Temple at dawn. Our co-travellers were mainly Buddhist pilgrims with fist fulls of incence sticks who, it seemed, were there to visit as many Temples as they could in a day before returning home. This photo was taken just after dawn, the light was starting to seep back into the colours of the Temple as the mist rolled lazily over the mountains above.
