People pass a small shrine-like roadside structure in Ibaraki, a suburb of Osaka, Japan. Such street scenes are very typical.

The characters on the cloths represent 'offering'. Local knowledge would be required to determine the significance of this shrine, but possibilities include offerings to ancestors and wishes for good luck. The stone statue on the right is, according to the photographer's Japanese source, a Jizo, which despite the much of the western literature, is often associated with Shinto as well as Buddhism in the minds of ordinary Japanese.
