Votive shrine of Our Lady of the Guard on the medieval city gate of Porta Soprana or Porta di Sant'Andrea, Genoa, Liguria, Italy
Under the arch of the medieval gate Porta Soprana, or Porta of San Andrea, main access to the city center, is placed a painting dedicated to Our Lady of the Guard. The painting, strongly desired by the devout inhabitants of the neighborhood, was made by the painter Giovanni Grifo (Alba 1869 - Genoa 1935), on behalf of the Municipality of Genoa, and placed inside a baroque tabernacle. The original painting, now in poor condition, was restored in 2015 and placed inside the Towers of Porta Soprana, while inside the tabernacle was placed a reproduction.
