Results Patch si/c did not influence captures of P. leucopus among habitats in cither i^W or 2()()() (1999: X', = <^-y. /' = ; 2()()(): X", = , F = ). Hence, there was no difference in captures of mice among different habi- tats (, exterior matrix, edge, or interior habitats, or not subsequently recaptured) for those individuals that had been initially trapped in edge habitat in small com- pared to large patches in either year (1999: Fisher's exact test, » = 44, P = ; 2000: Fisher's exact test, n = 39. P = ). Data were pooled across patch sizes within each year for all other analyses (Table 2). The proportion of P. leucopus recaptured in edge habitat (, both the first and second captures occurred in edge habitat) compared to the proportion recaptured in inte- rior habitat did not differ in either year (1999: X'l = 1 -4. P = ; 2000: x\= , P = ), suggesting that mice did not show a preference for edge or interior forest habitat. Surrounding habitat type (, com or pasture) did not influence the proportion of mice subsequently captured across different habitats that had been first captured in the edge in either year (1999: Fisher's exact test, n = 44, P = ; 2000: Fisher's exact test, n = 33, P = ). Likewise, sunounding habitat type did not affect subsequent captures across habitats for mice that had been first captured in the exterior matrix habitat in either year (1999: Fisher's exact test, /? = 32, P = ; 2000: Fisher's exact test, n =10,P = ). When captures between habitats in 1999 and 2000 were compared, P. leucopus first captured in the exte- rior were subsequen
