He now settled down as a farmer, which hedeclared was the best work of all. He consented tointerrupt his enjoyment of farm life in 1888 by ac-cepting the office of treasurer of Spokane county,which he held for two terms, the limit allowed forthat office under the state constitution. Van Trump, who gained fame by makingthe first ascent of Mount Rainier with Gen. HazardStevens. When the civil war broke out Marshall F. Moorewas quick to respond to the call for volunteers. Heserved under McClellan in Virginia and under Sher-man.
