The questions askedcover the situation regarding their break withheathen customs, practice and beliefs, thehome life and married relation, and the useof tobacco and beer. The candidate must also give satisfactoryevidence of his conversion; his knowledge ofGods laws and those of the church; his willing-ness to follow the teachings of the church andmake contributions toward the work of Chris-tianizing his own people. All this, as maybe imagined, takes time. A leaf from thejournal of a ditsrict superintendent describingone such examination reads: A great day. We continued the examinationof candidates until about noon and then spentsome time examining the characters of evan-gelists, as well as obtaining reports of theirwork. It was
