Scarlet lily beetles seen on lily leaves. They are a pest affecting lilies and fritillaries and cause holes in the leaves leading to defoliation.

These beautifully bright red beetles can be very destructive to many plants of the lily group. They make rounded holes in the middle of leaves and the larvae, the young, live in a sticky, yellowy-brown mass on the bottom surface of a leaf. In a bad infestation the plants can be entirely defoliated and left with only a stem. The lily beetle also attacks buds, flowers and seed pods. The are active from March to October.
