Canet de Mar is a municipality located in the Maresme region, in the province of Barcelona (Spain). In recent years, the population has grown considerably with the expansion of real estate pressure beyond the limits of the Barcelona Metropolitan Area, doubling its population in just over 10 years, reaching 14,583 inhabitants in 2018. The dominant industry, due to its coastal nature, is tourism, together with agricultural exploitation (floriculture and strawberry cultivation), in addition to the textile industry. In Canet de Mar there is the University School of Technical Engineering in Knitted Fabrics, the only center in Spain that offers this type of study.
