As an instance of the inordinate prices at present being paid for chemicals anddrugs it may be mentioned that prior to the war a kilogramme of aspirin (about 2£pounds) sold for 13 roubles.* Last winter the cost of this drug was 400 roubles perkilogramme, but with the arrival of a large quantity from Japan, the price fell untilit is now 170 roubles. Like nearly all chemicals, aspirin previous to the war wasmostly imported into Siberia from Germany. WEEKLY BULLET IS 199 for 32 roubles a pood (36 pounds) now brings 300 roubles. There is very little of iton the market and only small quantities are sold at a time. Vanilla has increasedin price from 16 roubles to 225 roubles. Druggists goods are being largely importedfrom America. White resin, which is used by soap-boilers, has increased in pricefrom roubles per pood (36 pounds) to 12 roubles or 13 roubles. The price ofthis article may be expected to fall in the near future with the arrival of a largequantity from abroad. As the railway from Vladivostok is fully occupied, chemicalproducjts for the most part are obtained from Japan through the post.
