Pure kaolin is awhite clay and is chemically a potash aluminum silicate whichis mined in considerable quantity in a number of southernStates and is used in the manufacture of fine table and orna-mental chinaware. All snow-white clays are not kaolin andhere and there over the eastern Panhandle Area are foundsmall deposits of bleached white clay popularly called kaolin,but they usually contain too many impurities for this purevariety. The various alterations of rocks under atmospheric andaqueous agencies are included under the term great agenl of change in the rocks in the surface portion.
