A fine small-sword with chiselled iron hilt, Italy(?), circa 1740 Triangular thrusting blade with remnants of gilt decorative etching at the forte. The iron hilt chiselled in high relief displaying rocaille and medallions of classical heroes against a stippled gilt background. The guard loop has a finial cut as a monster head. Profuse original silver wire grip winding with Turk's heads. Unusual sword displaying beautifully cut iron. Length 101 cm. Provenance: John F. Hayward Collection, Sotheby's London, 1.
