Cardiac valve replacements. Coloured computed tomography (CT) scan through the heart of a 58-year-old woman with valvular heart disease. Two of her heart's valves have been replaced (white): the aortic valve and the mitral valve. The aortic valve (centre left) is in its open (systolic) position. It lies between the left ventricle and the aorta. The mitral valve (lower centre) lies between the left atrium and the left ventricle.
