Since coming here in 1868, Mr. Cummingsmercantile interests have increased year b\- year,and his surplus earnings have been judiciouslyinvested in real , both in Middletown andNew York City, he having built many privateresidences and business houses. His love forfine horses, which he doubtless inherited, is suchthat he has made many investments in this direc-tion, and has bred some of the best horses in thisregion. Henowowns Lady C, by Clay,a Hambletonian, dam by Messenger has raised three fine colts, two by Alber-ton, sired by Kentucky Prince, and one byOld Sweepstakes, all promising WILLIAM C. Sheridan, born in New York City, anddaughter of John and Mary Sheridan, both ofwhom are now deceased. Her father was a mer-chant of that city. Three children have beenborn unto them: John H., a graduate of Man-hattan College; Mary, now attending Mt. Academj, on the Hudson; and Annie,attending the Ursuline Academy of Middletown. Mr. Cummings is a member of St. JosephsCatholic Church, and was a member of the Build-ing Committee at the time of the construction ofthe church edifice. In politics he is a resides in a beautiful residence on MonhagenAvenue, adjoining the city limits, his groundscomprising four acres
