Bismuth Iodide.—A complex iodideof emetine and bismuth containing from 17to 23 per cent, of emetine and from 15 to 20per cent, of bismuth. It has the action ofemetine, but when taken by mouth, it is lesslikely to cause vomiting than the soluble saltsof emetine administered orally. It has beenused with apparent good results in the treat-ment of chronic cases and carriers of amebicdysentery, even where the hypodermic admin-istration of emetine has failed. The common-ly used dose has been Gm. (3 grains) daily.
