Erected in 1404, the 10 metre high statue is reputedly Germany's tallest representation of the knight. A symbol of civic freedom, it faces the cathedral and archbishops who had threatened the citizens privileges. The Gothic Rathauswas built 1405 - 1409, though the Weser Renaissance style balcony and gables by Lüder von Bentheim were added between 1609 - 1612. Spire of Kirche Unser Lieben Frauen rises beyond.
