Headless Horseman at Sleepy Hollow

Sleepy Hollow in North Tarrytown (in New York) on the east bank of the Hudson River, was the setting for American author Washington Irving's story "Legend of Sleepy Hollow." Pictured here in this 1876 engraving is the Headless Horseman in the story chasing the schoolmaster across the bridge. The Old Dutch Reformed Church is in the background.
