MAGIC SYMBOLS - THE HEXAGRAM AND THE EZEKIEL WHEEL Magic symbols drawn up with specific reference to a study of the secret design of the Tarot deck. [Left] The Hexagram, symbol of the Macrocosm, sometimes called The Seal of Solomon. The yellow-red triangle represents the upward striving mingling and intersecting with the downward-direction of the other triangle. It is the meeting of the two triads - one is the supernatural Trinity, the other the three-fold man (the Man of Thinking, Feeling and Willing): in magical terms, this is the meeting of the Macrocosm and the Microcosm. In the centre of the figure is the Tau cross, and three Hebrew letters - the yod. [Right] The Wheel of Ezekiel, as visualised by Eliphas Levi: the four letters on the outer periphery spell either ROTA or TAROT, which ae related in an occult sense. The outer concentric contains the four emblems of the fixed signs of the zodiac and of the four Evangelists, interspersed with the four Hebrew letters of the Tetragrammaton (four-lettered name of God). The inner circle contains a fourfold symbol comprising a cross, the top marked with the sigil for Mercury, the left marked with the sigil for Salt, and the right marked with the sigil for Sulphur (these three represent the Three Principles within the human being). The bottom line of the cross is marked with the sigil for Aquarius - the 'human' Age to come. The two designs are lithographic facsimiles of drawings done by the French occultist, Eliphas LÚvi, in W. Wynn Westcott, The Magical Ritual of the Sanctum Regnum, 1896.
