There is a littlewindow in the lean-to, differing in finish from thetwo others dbove it and yet not in line with directs the attention to the second period inthe evolution of this historic mansion. Lieutenant-governor Usher was Councilor andTreasurer of Massachusetts under Andros. Hemarried the daughter of Peter Lidgett, and lateron married for a second wife the daughter of GeorgeAllen, who bought the New Hampshire grantsfrom the heirs of Mason. This home on the
