Berlin,Friedrichshain. RuDi Cultural & Neighborhood center in the ‘inspector’s house’ of historic listed school Ludwig Hoffmann

Berlin,Friedrichshain. RuDi Cultural & Neighborhood center in the ‘inspector’s house’ of historic listed school building. Architect Ludwig Hoffmann (1852 - 1932) planned the building as a community school. The two front pavilions were inspector's houses - the function being district inspection and a tax collection point for municipal matters. The school was inaugurated in 1912. After WW2 The office became the registry office of district Friedrichshain and was also used as an issuing office for food and coal cards. The registry office moved to Warschauer Straße in the early 1960s and the space was used for educational purposes and janitor’s accommodation. The Emanuel Lasker secondary school used the building between 1996 and 1998. The building was thereafter empty & dilapidated until the Berlin Brandenburger Bildungswerk eV began partial renovation of the inspector's house. The funding scheme of the EU program URBAN II supported the venture and the building is now home to the RuDi cultural & neighborhood center.
