Hirta St Kilda
The Island has had a chequered history and due to crop failure and succession of ilness the Islanders were evacuated in the mid 1930s. Now the Army have a small base camp established in the 1950s. Its purpose was to track rockets fired from a test range on South Uist some 40 miles to the East
