Aragonite crystals. This mineral is a form of calcium carbonate, here in a coralloid (coral-like) formation. Conditions in deep underground caves, rarely or never visited by humans or animals, allow the formation of large mineral crystals such as these, which form over time as water drips through the caves. Photographed in a cave in France.
