The memorial to The Brahan Seer at Chanonry point, Scotland
This stone pillar and plaque at Chanonry Point commemorates the legend of the Brahan Seer, known as Coinneach Odhar in Gaelic. He was employed by the third Earl of Seaforth and eventually worked on Seaforth land at Brahan Castle near Dingwall. This eventually led to his downfall as he unwisely predicted that the absent Earl was indulging in Parisien sexual adventures - Lady Seaforth taking umbrage at this had him burnt in a tar barrel on Chanonry Point. Although some people have questioned whether he actually existed, he is thought to have probably originated from Uig in the Isle of Lewis. Many of his prophecies are said to have come true.
