Industrial videoscope system. This is the Olympus IPLEX videoscope, a system used for the advanced inspection and maintenance of inaccessible sites. The flexible videoscope (being fed into a pipe by the man's right hand) has small CCD (charge-coupled device) chip embedded into the tip of the scope. The video image is relayed from the distal tip and focusable lens assembly back to the display via internal wiring. The IPLEX also features LED (light-emitting diode) illumination and power-assisted articulation to ensure advanced mobility. The videoscope can be used to examine roads, gas and water pipes, as well as to maintain aircraft, ships and cars. It has also been used in the examination of ancient ruins and on archaeological digs.
