If the anesthetic procedure does not require large quantities offluid, the largest glass may be discarded and the smaller ones used; buta relation should always exist between the strength of the solution andthe size of the container, when different solutions are prepared at the 22 REGIONAL ANESTHESIA same time. Glass measures should be sterilized in pure distilled water, along with the instruments, and dried and cooled before use. Glass Cups.—When the correct solutions have been prepared in thegraduates, they are poured in cups ready to be utilized. Glass cupsshould be preferred to enameled ones, because they are transparent. They should be of differentsizes so as to avoid possible errors in the course of a procedure requir-ing solutions of different strengths. They should be rather flat, so thatthe syringe may be easily dipped into the solution and the whole oftheir contents aspirated without difficult}. They are sterilized at thesame time as the graduates and in the same manner. METHOD 23 Ltier Syringe.—The Luer syringe is used exclusively for hypodermicinjections, preparatory to or following the anesthetic procedure. The instruments composing the authors outfit are conveniently putup in a nickel-plated metallic case (Fig. 7), in which they can undergosterilization either by boiling or by dry heat. This compact disposi-tion is of great advantage to the anesthetist, who is thus able to carryMs sterile instruments from one place to another without
