Cherry Blossom Time in Beckenham Place Park: Spring 2009
Spring Cherry Blossoms at the edge of the Golf Course in Beckenham Place park, Lewisham. Beckenham Place Park is the largest green space in the borough of Lewisham, covering 96 hectares, with large areas of ancient woodland ideal for informal woodland walks. The park is an important wildlife site and it also makes up part of the South East London Green Chain Walk and the regional Capital Ring. A cherry blossom is the name for the flower of cherry trees, also known as Sakura (Japanese kanji : 桜 or 櫻; hiragana: さくら) in Japanese. In English, the word "sakura" is equivalent to the Japanese flowering cherry. Cherry fruit (known in Japanese as sakuranbo) comes from another species of tree.
