I recently wrote to you asking for some advice about the heating of my greenhouse, 22i/l>xl50, with hot water, and my inquiry was satisfactorily an- swered in The Eeview of February 15. However, there are one or two ques- tions that I neglected to ask. Where shall I put the air valves? Will the lower end of the flows need an air valve? Can 4 use automatic air valves to take care of the air? J. G. If the flows run downhill and the ex- pansion tank is connected at the high- est point of the flow pipe, there will be" no occasion for any air valves in the system, either on the flows or re- turns, as the air can escape through the pipe which leads to the expansion tank. There will then be no possibility of air collecting at any time in the pipes, pro- vided, of course, they have been given a slight downward trend. IN EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA. Will you please tell me how to pipe a greenhouse, 39 x 150 feet, six feet high to the gutters and fourteen feet to the ridge? How deep should the boiler be placed in the ground? The outside tem- perature here sometimes drops below zero, but not often. M. H. H. If a house 39 x 150 feet is to be heated to 50 degrees in zero weather, it will be well to use five 21/^-inch or three 3-inch pipes as flows, and thir- teen 2-inch returns. Place one of the flows about four feet under the ridge and one upon each of the plates. If five are used, one can be carried un
