In this con-nection it is of interest to note that elabor-ate safety measures are being taken andnothing is to be left undone to protect thelives of the caisson workers in their hazardous occupation. To this end numerous con-ferences have been held between officialsand engineers of the Golden Gate Bridgeand Highway District, the State IndustrialAccident Commission and the Pacific ^ 46 ?. Bridge Company, pier contractors. Special regulations have been formulat-ed, following lengthy communications withDr. Nathan Levy, of New York, one ofthe worlds foremost authorities on com-pressed air, who was responsible for safetylegislation in connection with the caissonworkers on the Hudson Tube, GeorgeWashington Bridge and other importantenterprises in the Empire state, involvingthe protection of workers under compressedair. Marin Tower of Special Interest With these important developmentsunder way, work on other units of thebridge is progressing at a gratifying pace. Since September 1, the base blocks ofthe San Francisco anchorage have beencompleted, thus eliminating any danger ofslides in the deep excavations back of FortWinfield Scott when the rainy seasonarrives. On the Marin side of the Golden Gatethe base blocks have long been completedand the giant eyebars and girders whichwill hold the cables to the anchorage havebeen set in place and are now underg
